– Planning Your Professional Truck Driving Career –
If you are just starting out in your career as a tractor trailer driver, thinking about becoming a tractor trailer driver, or you are an experienced driver looking for another company, the first decision you should make is to decide who is going to best represent your career interests. Is it better to:
Many of today’s truck drivers recognize the important differences between using a company recruiter versus using an independent recruiter like Trucking Careers of America, and how these differences favorably impact their truck driving career.
A trucking company recruiter is an employee and represents one company. Their responsibility is to recruit drivers to work for that company. As an employee they are trained to present their company in a certain way, and can be restricted about how much they are allowed to disclose to recruits. Their interest typically goes only so far as to get students to the training location.
This Could Happen to You ….
We regularly receive phone calls and e-mails from truck drivers who worked with an in-house recruiter, went to work for that recruiter’s company, and too late discovered that what they had been told was not the reality of things, especially when it comes to potential income and hometime. They are either stuck in a bad situation for some time to come, or out of work; back where they started and looking for a trucking job, again. Often they must pay back their former employer for the monies that the company spent training them, which can be in the thousands of dollars.
We also regularly hear from drivers who thought they were hired by a company, arrived at a training center or orientation, only to find out several days later that they were being sent home because their paperwork was not in order, the background check was not complete, or something required further investigation. Most of them have to pay their own way home and the majority of them do not return.
