What is the pay?

  • 1.53 cents per mile for 1st 100 miles loaded
  • 1.28 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 101-200
  • 1.13 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 201-300
  • 1.03 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 301-400
  • 0.99 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 401-500
  • 0.96 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 501-600
  • 0.93 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 601-700
  • 0.91 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 701-1000
  • 0.90 cents per mile for all miles loaded from 1001 and up
  • 0.90 cents per mile for all empty/deadhead miles

What kind of equipment will I be leasing?

It depends on the company, most likely a freightliner or sentry, which are some of the best in the industry. These trucks are equipped with a 500 hp Detroit diesel with 3.58 rear end's, 13 speed Eton transmissions, sliding fifth wheel, manual dump valves and full guage package.

What are the trucks governed at?

Depending on the company in most cases they are governed from 70 - 75 mph.

What types of Leases are available?

Who pays for the fuel?

The independent contractor is responsible for all tractor fuel charges. Most companies provide a fuel card that authorizes discounts at various authorized fuel stops.

Is there a fuel rebate?

Most companies provide a fuel rebate based on the national average determined by the Dept. of Energy.

Is there a down payment?

No ! Most companies require a $500 Performance Bond. If you do not have the total $500 up front the company can deduct $33.33 wkly for 15 weeks from your pay check. The Performance Bond earns interest at the 91 day Treasury Bill rate.

Will a person's credit rating be a major issue?

No. In fact, in many instances, timely payments can often improve damaged credit.

What happens when I finish my Lease?

In most cases you receive a .01 cent per mile Lease completion bonus paid for all dispatched miles, paid once you complete the Lease. You will also receive any unused escrow funds and your Performance Bond. All accounts earn interest that is based on the 91 day Treasury Bill that is paid quarterly.

Do I receive a drop and unload pay?

Yes. Most companies pay Drop pay at $25.00 after the first two stops, $30 for the 4th stop and $35 for stops 5 and above.

Do I get Health Insurance?

As a service to independent contractors, most companies offer health insurance through an independent contractor at a group rate.

What is the cost of licensing, permits and FHUT?

The amount various but the average cost is $2,400 annually. This amount will be deducted at the rate of $62 wkly from your settlement. You earned an incentive towards your second year licensing, permits and FHUT. If you run 120,000 miles as a Solo, or 200,000 miles as a Team, you can earn 0.05 cents per mile (capped at $1,000) to be used towards your second and third year licensing, permits, and FHUT.

QUALCOMM Charge: The QUALCOMM usage fee is $15.00 weekly. Typically there is no charge for the unit itself.

No Forced Dispath: You are an independent contractor. You are not forced dispatched. However, if you turn down a load you will not be paid for the deadhead miles on the next load.

What about maintenance concerns?

Most companies will set up a maintenance reserve account whereby they will deduct .05 cents per mile to go into your general reserve account. This account caps at $10,000. This account is to be used for major maintenance that is anything over $499. This account earns interest, which is based on the 91-day Treasury Bill that is paid quarterly.

Is there a variable mileage charge?

Yes. The variable mileage charge is .03 cents per mile, .01 of which is refunded upon the completion of the Lease.

Is there a truck warranty?

Yes. Depending upon the type of Lease, the year of the truck and other factors, it varies.

Are there any bonuses paid?

Yes. With most companies there is a quarterly safety bonus paid for Solo drivers at the rate of $.05 cents per mile on all loaded miles over 32,000 miles in a quarter, capped at $450. Team/Trainer bonuses are $.05 cents per mile per mile on all miles than run over 48,000 miles in a quarter, with no cap.
